Memorial Day - A great day to walk Great Island

After you have paid your respects to our veterans think about clearing your Memorial Day weekend head by taking a hike out to Great Island. Take Main Street to Commercial Street to Kendrick to Chequesett Neck. Follow Chequesett to the Great Island parking lot approximately 3 1/2 miles from Route 6. You can also access a trailhead and proceed towards Great Island across a small strip of sand called The Gut. There are no amenities. Bring water. This is very remote and great beach for those who desire privacy. Round trip to Jeremy Point is 6 miles.

Striped Bass

Wellfleet is known for its abundance of fish and shellfish, including the famous Wellfleet Oyster. At low tides in Wellfleet, quahogs, soft shell clams, and oysters are harvested along the beaches. Seasonal recreational shellfishing permits, valid from June through September, cost $40 for non-residents and can be obtained from the Shellfish Department at the Town Pier (508-349-0300). During the summer, recreational shellfishing is only permitted at Indian Neck on Wednesdays and Sundays. Striped Bass are plentiful in Cape Cod Bay in the spring and early summer and off the backside beaches where in the fall you can catch a 50lb+ striper.

An Incredible Casual Sunday

It couldn't be a better day in the Fleet, so how about a casual day at the Beachcomber on Cahoon Hollow Beach.
